Carl graduated high school from Sewanee Military Academy in 1967. He graduated from Jacksonville State University with a bachelor’s degree in business, then furthered his education at the University of Alabama with a master’s degree in education and then vocational education certification at Auburn University. Carl taught school for 25 years as Marketing Education Coordinator and was a tennis coach. He was an avid tennis player. He then was a Realtor at Fields Gossett Reality for 22 years, winning multiple awards throughout his career. Carl served as president of St. Clair Realtors Association, Board of Directors for St. Clair Builders Association, and Variance Board of Riverside. He was a Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church of Pell City. He enjoyed singing in the choir and spending time with his Sunday School class.
Carl is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha O Howard; two sons, Carl “Mac” McKinley Howard II (Elizabeth) and Dr. Zachary O. Howard (Julie); grandchildren, Angela, Madison Asher, Alexander, Annbelle, and Avery; sister, Sue Osborne; and many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his father, Hobart McKinley Howard; and his mother, Edith Beryl Howard.
A visitation will be 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Monday, April 21, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Pell City. A funeral will follow at 2:00 pm Monday, April 21, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Pell City. The burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
