She is survived by her daughter, Sheree (Richard) Tidwell; four grandchildren, Matthew (Tracy) Calhoun, Jeremy (Monica) Haynes, Candace (Brandon) Smith, and Brandon (Jeffye) Haynes; three step-grandchildren, Joshua (Sharon) Tidwell, Johnathon (Bethany) Tidwell, and Alissa (Justin) Hubbard; ten great-grandchildren, Berritt Haynes, Brooks Calhoun, Ryleigh Haynes, Brayley Smith, Ella Grace Haynes, Brennan Calhoun, Addyson Smith, Kynlee Haynes, Colton Haynes, and Arlie Haynes; four step great-grandchildren, Aiden Wellman, Matthew Hubbard, Eliana Tidwell, and John Mark Tidwell; nephews, Lee W. (Cathy) Trammell Jr. and Cecil (Merry) Trammell; and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray I. Bowman; daughter, Sheila Polk; parents, Cecil and Christine Simpkins; and sister, Eva S. Trammell.
Bettye was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She owned and operated Bettye’s Beauty Salon for over 60 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church. The family would like to thank Affinity Hospice for their love and compassionate care.
A visitation will be held at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:00am-11:00am with a service to follow in the chapel. Interment will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Calhoun, Jeremy Haynes, Brandon Smith, Brandon Haynes, Berritt Haynes, Brooks Calhoun, Brayley Smith, and Brennan Calhoun.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the St. Clair East Camp of the Gideons International in her memory.
