Pat was born to Anne Masterson and Archie Ervin Curry, Jr. on September 7, 1950. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Barnett Curry; aunt, Ann Curry Pogue; brother, Michael Ervin Curry; sister, Kevin Curry Whitehead (Brad); daughters, Brandi Curry Jones (Alan) and Jenny Curry Moore (Brian); grandchildren, Anna Jones, Jacob Moore, and Alaina Jones; as well as many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pat married his beloved Carolyn on July 13, 1988, and they spent many years enjoying their lovely home in Vestavia Hills with family and friends. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by friends and telling a good story, usually while lovingly preparing a gourmet meal.
Pat was blessed to be able to travel the world and always wanted to learn what was around the next corner. When his daughters were young he could be found camping with them almost every weekend and taking long road trips out West to national parks. In his later years he loved nothing more than a good hunt with Brian and his friends. Pat found joy in his many travels with Carolyn and their friends to places like the Windward Islands, Alaska, California, Maine, Argentina, South Africa, Germany and their favorite, Tahiti.
Pat grew up in south East Lake and graduated from Banks High School in 1968, making wonderful memories and cherished friendships along the way. He enlisted in the Alabama National Guard in 1969. After his training at Ft. Bragg, he returned to his unit, B Company of the 167th Infantry (M) Battalion. He served eight years and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class and was honorably discharged. He joined the Birmingham Police Department in 1973. He later graduated from Samford University in 1992 after six terms: Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush.
Pat worked as a police officer for the City of Birmingham in many divisions including Vice/Narcotics and Homicide and was in command at the South and West Precincts. He retired as Captain after 30 years with the police force. He then spent 10 years with the medical examiner’s office, retiring as Chief Deputy Coroner-Medical Examiner of Jefferson County. His most enduring relationships were with his fellow officers and the people he met in the line of duty.
