William "Bill" Arthur Thompson

Bill graduated from Worthington High School in 1962 before attending The Ohio State University. His professional career was in Transportation for Ashland Chemical and National Piggyback before his retirement as agency owner of EXEL Transportation in 2009.

Bill's career was filled with great accomplishments. His 40-plus years in Transportation Logistics included him becoming a senior executive at American President Lines and Mark VII Transportation. Many people all over the United States enjoyed working with him.

Bill was married to Susan Stanley Thompson on March 19, 1989. He was a man who loved life. He was a great father to Todd, Aaron, and Anna. He enjoyed coaching, helping with homework, and offering lots of unsolicited advice. His five grandchildren loved their PopPop. Lily, Tripp, Ruby, Rebecca, and Brooke were the loves of his life.

Bill's personal time included worship and fellowship in Chelsea at Morningstar United Methodist Church, where he was an active choir member. He also enjoyed socializing at the gym, playing golf, and checking on his office even after he retired. He will be greatly missed as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Bill is survived by his wife, Susan, of Chelsea; two sons, Todd Thompson (Yvonne) of Plano, Texas, and Aaron Thompson (Beth) of Birmingham, Alabama; one daughter, Anna Harris (Dan) of Brevard, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Brooke Thompson of Plano, and Lily Harris, Tripp Harris, Ruby Harris, and Rebecca Harris, all four of Brevard; one brother, Jimmy Thompson (Janet) of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Phyllis Harmony (Ted) and Peggy Valentino (Joe); many nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Stacey Bearden and Angela Bigbee.

The family will greet friends from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Morningstar United Methodist, immediately followed by the Memorial Celebration of Bill's Life at 3 p.m. at the church, located at 11072 CR11, Chelsea, AL 35043.
