Virginia "Ginger" Goyer Scarborough was born in Jackson, TN and grew up in Memphis, TN. Lived in Birmingham, AL since 1966. Attended the University of Alabama and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Samford University.
Ginger served as Docent at the Birmingham Museum of Art – her favorite activity was providing art tours for vision impaired children. She was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, where she served as a Stephen Minister and was a member of the Genesis Sunday School Class since 1977.
Ginger fought Multiple Sclerosis for 30 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Goyer. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Ken Scarborough; son, Todd Scarborough (Scarlett) of Cumming, GA; daughter, Suzanne Heidepriem (Dr. Robert Heidepriem, III) of Birmingham; grandchildren, William Heidepriem, Anna Kay Heidepriem, and Charlie Heidepriem of Birmingham, and Savanna Lambert of Cumming, GA; brother, Tom Goyer of Memphis, TN; sister, Patricia Bess of Richmond, VA; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Mike Scarborough (Sue Ann) of Birmingham.
The family especially thanks the many wonderful people who touched Ginger’s life and provided care at Brookwood Hospital, Birmingham. Over the many years of care, they became members of our extended family.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, immediately followed by the 1 p.m. funeral service at the church. On Saturday, March 26, 2016, the graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, AL.
