A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Ty enjoyed spending time with his family and dear friends. Born July 13, 1928, to Armon and Thelma Acton of Altadena, Ty was somewhat of a Shades Cahaba legend as a two-sport athlete.
After high school, he attended Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee, on football and baseball scholarships. At Bethel, he met the love of his life, Martha Jo Manner, and they were married on November 26, 1949.
After college, Ty played professional baseball before beginning his career in the industrial laundry supply business. He and Martha had four children during their 68-year marriage.
Ty was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church, where he looked forward each week to attending his Sunday school class and men's Bible study. He also could be found enjoying a cup of coffee with his lifelong friends at Jack's in Homewood on most weekday mornings.
Ty is preceded in death by his parents, Armon Clarence Acton and Thelma Mae Acton, and his daughter Katherine Acton Abraham. He is survived by his wife, Martha Manner Acton, his son, Tyrus Raymond Acton, Jr. (Peggy), his twin daughters, Kay and LuAnne (Randy), and 10 grandchildren, Martha Acton, Cory Acton, Sarah Fuston, Sam Fuston, Colton Ross, Ryan Ross, Lindsay Ross, Jonathan Jeremiah Brown, Eason Abraham, and Garrett Abraham. Ty found peace in knowing that Heaven awaited.
