Thurman was a past president of the Birmingham (Alabama) Homebuilders Association. In 1992, he was inducted into the National Homebuilders Hall of Fame.
Preceding Thurman in death were his parents; his first wife, Katherine Anne Willis Wilson; and his sister, Ivadean Goolsby.
Survivors include Thurman's wife, Betty Lawrence Wilson; four daughters, Susan Anne Wilson (Teresa), Sandra Wilson Mott (Timothy), Stephanie Wilson Howell (Scott), and Stacey Wilson Thames; son, Thurman Brett Wilson (Dana); six grandchildren, Colby Wilson, Chase Wilson, Landon Thames, Camden Howell, Jordan Thames, and Hannah Howell; sister, Shelby Jean Turner; brother, Billy Robbins; and extended family, including Cathy Snow, April Carden, and Kellie Self.
The family especially thanks Countryside Care Hospice for their compassionate care of Thurman during his illness.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in the chapel of Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, with Brother Eugene Cook officiating. The burial will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. On Wednesday, the family will visit with friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the chapel and at the funeral home after the cemetery committal service.
