After graduation from Fulton County High School, he went on to study mechanical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. He started his first job at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as an engineer responsible for designing a launching arm for the Apollo space program. Terry worked for Birmingham Cable before setting out on his own to found Masada Corporation, a cable television provider. He also founded, co-founded and partnered in several other companies including Masada Security, Crowley Cellular, IShopHere.com, Postron, Shannon Services, and Trillion Digital Partners. Terry retired in 2007.
Terry Johnson was preceded in death by his mother Alma Cole Johnson, his father, William Murray Johnson and his brother William Murray Johnson, Jr. He was married to Sheron Beasley Johnson on July 3, 1986 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Terry is survived by his wife Sheron; children, Shannon Johnson (Ken Martens), Bradley Graham Johnson (Jennifer), Diona Hightower (Jody), Brandon Greer (Melissa); grandchildren, Annika and Amelia Martens, Poppy Johnson, Trevor Hightower (Morgan), Travis Hightower, Alexa Hightower and Mac Greer, and one Great-Granddaughter, Lilli Hightower.
Terry enjoyed reading (especially biographies), history, science, technology, and travel. Hobbies included riding motorcycles, boating, scuba diving, exploring genealogy, working on jigsaw puzzles, and watching sunsets. Terry loved making memories and spending time with his family, especially at their home on Lake Martin. He had a great sense of humor, strong moral principles and believed in being a life-long learner. He loved deeply and sincerely. He was in awe of God’s creation and presence in our lives. He walked through life with humility, grace, and confidence.
Terry was active in charities and organizations, always seeking to help others. He sat on the Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts of America and was Chairman of the Board of Grace House Ministries. He was a member of the Republican Eagles. Terry was a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Vestavia, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama.
