Mr. Watts was born in Winston County, near Double Springs, Alabama and grew up on Sand Mountain in Crossville, Alabama. He graduated as Salutatorian from Crossville High School in 1963, after which, he attended Huntington College on a basketball scholarship. Following his freshman year, he transferred to the University of Alabama, where he was president of Theta Chi fraternity. Mr. Watts graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1967 and earned a Masters of Education from Livingston University in 1970. He then became a LUTC graduate in 1975 and a CLU and ChFC in 1984 through American College.
Once he completed his education, Mr. Watts taught high school in Demopolis, Alabama, followed by teaching and coaching basketball in Snowflake, Arizona for a time. He then moved on to work for Liberty National Life Insurance Company for 33 years, winning numerous awards and honors. Mr. Watts retired from Liberty National as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer in 2006.
Mr. Watts served his community in many ways over the years. He was a member of the Jaycees; worked with Habitat for Humanity; was president of the Birmingham chapter of ASTD; and held various offices with the Life Underwriters Association.
Mr. Watts is preceded in death by parents; Dr. Wallace and Nell Watts, along with his brother, Mike Watts. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gayle Dozier Watts, his son, Dee Watts (Margaret), his daughter, Ginger Watts Grant, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and brother Freddy Watts (Marilyn).
He will be missed by all who knew him.
