Ronald Lee Giles

Ronald L. "Ronnie" Giles passed from life into the arms of his Heavenly Father on October 11, 2013. He was a native of Birmingham and close surrounding areas. Ronnie was born on May 8, 1931 to Lillian Beatrice Meadows and Thomas Mortimer Giles. He attended Brookwood High School and West Blockton High School where he participated in many sports. He attended Birmingham-Southern College where he played baseball and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi. Ronnie was a true entrepreneur founding numerous successful retail, sales, and manufacturing businesses many of which are still in existence today carried on by his family. He was a loving husband, caring and generous father, and beloved Grandpapa. He never met a stranger and always had a welcoming and encouraging word for those around him. Ronnie married Martha Deane Copeland and they celebrate 55 years of a long loving marriage working together, enjoying travel, and playing tennis with their many friends. Ronnie took delight in his daily walks around the lake with his best four-legged friend, Lucky. He loved and attended Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church. Ronnie is survived by his wife and helpmate of 55 years, Martha Deane Copeland Giles; two children: Gregory Ronald (Ann) and Gwendolyn Deane Triantos (Dean); one sister: Juanita Giles Elmore; and four grandchildren: Sam and Taylor Triantos and Grace and Gregory Giles as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Dr. T. Edward Giles.A memorial service to celebrate a life well lived will be held at Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church at 5080 Cahaba Valley Trace (corner of Highway 119 and County Road 14) on Tuesday, October 15 at 1:00 pm. Family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00am to 1:00pm prior to the service. A graveside service and interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery immediately following the church service.
