Roger Lewis Brown was born August 20, 1949, in Monroeville, Alabama. He was a long time resident of Birmingham, Alabama. He was predeceased by his father, Lewis Barnett Brown; his mother, Marjorie Fleming Brown; one sister, Sharon Lynn Welch. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, the former Candis Fortenberry; his daughter, Amy Kathryn Brooks (Taylor); Son, David Austin Brown (Allison); Brothers, Calvin Brown (Cherry) and Ronnie Brown (Janet); Sister, Brenda Koen (Johnny); Granddaughters, Mary Kathryn Brooks and Caroline Taylor Brooks; Grandsons, Andrew David Brown “Drew” and Alexander Sutton Brown “Alex.”
He and his wife, Candis, graduated from Monroe County High School in 1967 and married on July 26, 1969.
He began his 50 year career in banking while still in college at the University of South Alabama in Mobile at Merchants National Bank. He and his family moved to Birmingham in 1979 and he worked for BTNB which later became SouthTrust Bank. For the past 10 years he has been with Synovus Financial Services. He was known for his love of his family and doting on his grandchildren. He attended every ball game, recital, play and activity he could and was so proud of his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. He was also known for his "storytelling" and put an amusing spin on some of his experiences. Much loved and admired by his family, those he worked with, and anyone who got to know him.
