Richard Randolph Bandy, 52, of Woodstock, Alabama died Friday, October 29, 2021. He was born in Orlando, Florida and resided in Woodstock, Alabama. He graduated from West Blocton High School where he was a three-sport letterman. He played football at Livingston University and received his B.S. degree from Athens State College.
Above all, Richard Bandy was a family man. Nothing mattered to him more than those he loved. His three daughters were his world. His pride in them and love for them were crystal-clear. He adored his wife dearly and cherished his entire family.
Richard was a man who could be counted on any time he was needed. Whether the situation warranted a strong back, a good listening ear, or words of wisdom, Richard was there. He was the son who always had time for his parents; the brother who would drop everything when a sibling needed help. He was the uncle who rarely missed a function, and the friend who was always eager to share a laugh or a drink. He rarely had time for scrolling on his phone or watching television because he was too busy being present in the lives of family and friends.
He was a loyal man, working for Lhoist North America for most of his career. He took pride in his work; the maintenance department he supervised was recently recognized as among the top three within the company. Once he counted you among his friends, you had a friend for life. He loved to play the guitar, ride his motorcycle, lift weights, and watch Alabama football. Really, all those things were just ways he found to spend more time with the important people in his life.
He enjoyed teasing family and friends, but in a way that let everyone know he was laughing with them and not at them. Richard never left anyone feeling hurt or small. He made sure that everyone he cared about knew that he loved them, he believed in them, and he was there for them. His talent for building people up left everyone around him feeling like they could accomplish any goal. The world is a little less bright without him.
Richard is survived by his wife, Prudence; daughters, Skye, Izzy, and LilyAnn; mother, Melba Ann Bandy; siblings, Edwin Bandy (Kelly), Audrey Kennedy (Spencer), Jonathan Bandy, Elizabeth Fisher, and Peggy Vick (Jason); uncles, Jesse Vance, Hugh Bandy, Billy Robertson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins—all of whom loved him dearly and are heartbroken by his death. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard James Bandy, and great nephew, Ellison Mitchell.
The family will greet friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by A Service of Remembrance for Richard at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Johntown Cemetery in West Blocton.
