I think of Richard often. One of Richard's favorite phrases in a work meeting is "we got to do what we can do to keep the wolves away." We made hardhat stickers of Richard's favorite saying and I added a segment in my monthly safety meeting called: Keeping the Wolves Away. In this segment, we remind the workers about the little things we must practice to stay safe.

I was fortunate enough to call Richard a friend for the last 7 years. When I started with Lhoist, at O'Neal, Richard was always willing to help out whenever I asked. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand. 
Richard too great pride in everything he did, whether work or family, Richard always gave 110%. Everything Richard did was because it was the right thing to do, not because it was the easiest thing to do. Richard and I had many conversations about work, family and football. I don't think anyone will ever question how much he loved his family and how devoted he was to them. They were the reason for everything he did. 
You will be missed, but you will always be in our hearts. 


I remember the first time Richard started working at the lime plant in Montevallo many years ago. He was a prankster, a friend, and the kind of person people depend on in a pinch. He had a warm smile that reflected his good nature. I think Richard was always one up on my pranks, and somehow I feel like I still owe him one. He certainly made me smile a lot more, even when I was caught in one of his pranks. We both matured over the years, and although the pranks ended, the friendship never did. To Richard, I hope you can enjoy eternal peace in the hands of the Maker. I’m thankful for the times we had together, and pray that your family and those that knew you are comforted in this time. Farewell my friend, until we get together again someday. PS, don’t be putting lubricant on that Pearly gate handle to trick the rest of us when we get there. 

Richard and I met twenty years ago, a bit by chance.  As I am living abroad, we could only see each other from time to time, with long periods in between.  

Richard had however this very rare quality that when you would see him, he would make you feel welcome as if you had only left the day before.  As he always said, for my friends, my door is always open, you can come in, take a beer and sit in the coach until I come back from work.  

I admired him for his love for his family, the most important in his life, his passions and his friendship.  

In this terrible time, I am thinking about his family, his wife, his daughters, and all his friends, knowing that he was the best man that he could be, and I will keep his memory that way.

Richard never put anything before his family. He never missed an opportunity to help others, no matter how big or small the task. Most importantly, he was always looking at the brighter side of life and he found that ability through the endless love for his children. He would always make all kids feel loved and he took good care of mine on many occasions. That’s why they love him and call him Uncle Richard. He inspired us all and always did his best in everything that he did. You will be deeply missed big brother. But you will never be forgotten. I know I told you this a lot, but one last time, I love you Bro! Rest In Peace 

Richard was a friend of mine for 27 years. He was a dedicated employee and a dedicated father of his girls. He always asked about my family and told me about his. He was so proud of his girls and worked hard to give them a better life. He was the type of person that strived to do the right thing and wanted what was best. You will be missed but not forgotten.

Richard is a very special person.  I've known him for 14 years, which is the time I've worked at Lhoist, and we spoke often.    Every time I spoke to him, he would always say something to make me smile, cheer me up or make me feel good.

He would talk about his daughters frequently and how proud he was of them.  You didn't even have to see his face, you could hear the proud parent in his voice.  He cherished his family.

I will miss him dearly because he was one of my favorite people.  

Richard,  I am blessed to have known you.

Richard’s caring nature and dedication to his family, employees and job, gained my admiration and sets him apart in my memories as a great person. Richard’s antics always  made me laugh.
We will all miss Richard. He has fought the good fight and now he’s home at rest. We all must travel the same path one day. We should all strive to be the best we can be every day.

Richard was a great man.  He was always fair and honest.   His guys loved him and he was definitely an company man.   He loved his family, and he would always ask how yours was doing.  I have had the privilege of knowing Richard  for the last 12 years.   He was an inspiration to all that knew him.  He will definitely be missed.  Our prayers are with his wife and children.  Fly high brother.  

Richard was the best boss an employee could ask for. His door was always open and was willing to talk about anything, business or personal. There was nothing you could say that would dampen his spirit and he always looked at the bright side of things. He was a true friend to me and I will miss him very much. 

He loved his children and talked about them almost every day at work and it was always positive. You could tell they were the reason he worked so hard, to provide them with a true role model who they could look up to.  I hope they know how much he cherished them, even when he wasn't around them. 

Richard has been such an inspiration to me and has taught me so much in the 8 years I have known him.  How to be a great father, husband, friend, and employee.  I love you brother, rest in peace!
