Ramona C. Nelson

NELSON, RAMONA C (MONA) went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 10, 2012. Mona was born in Aliceville, Alabama February 15, 1932 to Herman and Donna Mae Colvin. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Janice, John, Ellis, Hal Russell, and Mary Alma. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Joe, and four sons: John (Donna) of Leeds, AL, Joseph of Birmingham, AL, James (tam) of Vestavia Hills, AL, and Jeffery (Ann) of Mentone, AL, as well as 28 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. After graduation from high school in Aliceville, she attended Business College in Birmingham and worked many years as an executive secretary. She married Joe Nelson on December 15, 1960 in Tampa, Florida. They moved to Birmingham shortly thereafter and have resided there ever since. She was an exceptional mother and homemaker. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years, area co0coordinator for Precept Ministries, and taught their bible studies in her home for many years. She also worked with Safe Harbor ministry and was an encourager to many parents. Mona knew the meaning of Christian love and exemplified it in all aspects of her life. It did not matter who you were; if you were hurting, her love reached out to you. She mentored countless numbers of people who were struggling with various tragedies and/or problems in their lives. Most of all she loved her family and never judged anyone's actions. She listened, loved, and gave spiritual council. She will be greatly missed by her family and multitude of friends. She looked forward to seeing her Savior and Lord face to face. The family will receive friends Monday, March 12th from 5:00 to 8:00P.M. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road. A memorial service will be Tuesday, March 13th at Beth Hallel 2230 Sumpter Road Hoover Al. at 1:00 P.M., In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Ponderosa Student Ministries, 1018 County Road 734, Mentone Al. 35984
