“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
Proverbs 31:25-31
Paula was a daughter, sister, wife, and friend, but her favorite role was mother to Heath, Ryan, and Julia and grandmother to Charlotte, Seth, Kathryn, and Charlie. She was a Hueytown High School graduate, attended the University of Alabama, a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a graduate of Carraway Radiologic Technology School. She worked in Virginia Beach, VA as a state social worker, then at Norwood Clinic in Birmingham, AL as a radiologic technician. She spent the last 40 plus years at her life’s calling of raising her two sons and daughter.
She is survived by her husband, Harold; children, Heath, Ryan (Erica), and Julia; grandchildren, Charlotte, Seth, and Charlie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kathryn Leah Speegle. She loved playing English handbells in church choirs. She played with First Presbyterian Church, Bessemer, AL; First Presbyterian Church, Carrolton, GA; Asbury United Methodist Church, Shelby County, AL; and attended handbell workshops all over the southeast. She loved all her cats and dogs over the years and all the ones her children adopted. Most of all she loved talking to her children and always had time for their calls. She was a devoted wife, mom, and best friend of 45 years; she was our rock. We pray dear Lord that she is in your arms with no more pain and suffering.
