Montye Dean Junkins, 83, native and current resident of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Her family will greet friends on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at The Church at Liberty Park from 1-2 p.m., followed by A Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. at the church, 12001 Liberty Parkway, Vestavia Hills, AL 35242.
Montye was preceded in death by her former husband, James W. Junkins; her parents, William W. Hazlegrove and Elaine Eads Hazlegrove; one nephew, Jason W. Sinclair; and her cousin, Larry Hawkins.
Montye will be missed by her large and loving family including her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Travis Weeks of Marietta, Georgia; two granddaughters, Grace Weeks (19) and Kathryn Weeks (17); one sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Bob Sinclair of Birmingham; nieces and nephews, Jerod C. Sinclair (Allison), Jill S. Allison (Mike), and Annie Laurie Messer (Shon); great-nieces and great-nephews, Connor Sinclair (22), Julia Sinclair (20), Jennings Sinclair (19), Jeb Sinclair (18), Kate Sinclair (17), Collins Sinclair (16), Robert Allison (10), and Emma Allison (7); and cousins, Donald L. Hawkins (Gayle), Brenda H. Stone (Creed), Janet H. Malone (Terry), Janice S. Hydock (Steve), and Harriet G. Hawkins (Larry).
After high school graduation, Montye attended Auburn University and Birmingham Southern. Her professional career spanned several years in customer service for BellSouth. In her leisure time, her favorite pastimes included tennis, dancing, watching classic movies, and spending time with friends and family.
Montye was a loyal, life-long member of Liberty Park Baptist Church, Birmingham. She was beloved for her joyful spirit, friendliness, and caring nature. She always made a point of taking interest in the lives of others and remembering details that made you feel special.
