Mitchell Alexander Carr, 29, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away May 31, 2021. He was born February 25, 1992 in Birmingham, Alabama, the middle son of Dennis and Pam (Hawkins) Carr. He graduated from Spain Park High School and attended Auburn University and UAB. He was currently enrolled at UAB as a senior in Industrial Distribution.
Mitchell was a high-energy, talented, genuine, fun, kind, and unique person. He had a charming smile and infectious personality that lit up the room and attracted all types of people, especially children, and he enjoyed caring for animals. He fiercely loved his family, his girlfriend Maddie Pampu, and his many other friends.
Mitchell was talented academically as well as athletically. He was a wizard with numbers, words, music, and art. He enjoyed and exceled in many sports growing up: soccer, football, track, lacrosse, and tennis. He especially exceled in track (high jump, long jump, pole vault, and pentathlon), where he finished in the top 3 nationally in multiple events over multiple years. He was the AAU High Jump National Champion in 2002 (Outdoor) and 2003 (Indoor), where he set a new national record that stood for a number of years. He finished 3rd in Pole Vault in the 2A Alabama State High School Track Championship representing Altamont in 2006 when he was 14 years old.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Norward Carr, Jr., and his brother, Harrison Scott Carr. Survivors include Mitchell's parents, Pam and Dennis Carr; his brothers, Nicholas and Owen; his maternal grandparents, Lamar and Elaine Hawkins; and his paternal grandmothers, Sandra Carr and Joy Jennings. Mitchell is also survived by his loving girlfriend, Maddie; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and close friends.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama.
A celebration of Mitchell’s life will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at The Church of the Highlands Chapel on the Grants Mill Campus, 4700 Highlands Way, Birmingham, AL, 35210. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the service will begin at 1 p.m.
