Michael (Mike) Woodson passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020, at the age of 64. He was born February 10, 1956 in Starkville, Mississippi to the late Clyde Woodson and Avis Wylie Woodson. He grew up in West Point, Mississippi, where he first developed his passion for music and sports. Mike was active in church choirs and enjoyed playing trumpet in band. He played football in school and later on in his teen years became an avid tennis enthusiast.
Mike went on to pursue his love of music at Mississippi State University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in music education. It was at college where Mike met his wife, Cathy, and together they served on staff at various churches during their marriage.
Throughout his life, Mike took great joy in his grandchildren and one of his proudest moments before he passed was gifting his oldest granddaughter her first band instrument.
He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mike is survived by his wife, Catherine Kelly Woodson; his daughters, Rachel LaMarche (Joseph) of Alabaster, Alabama and Anna Samuels (Brian) of Birmingham, Alabama; his grandchildren, Isabella Davis, Tara Samuels, River LaMarche, James Samuels and Raene LaMarche; his brother, Stan Woodson of Vicksburg, Mississippi; his nephews, Tanner Woodson (Heather) of Madison, Mississippi, Bowen Woodson (Corley) of Clinton, Mississippi; and his grandnieces and grandnephew, Hadley Woodson, Ada Woodson, and Bryce Woodson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Due to the pandemic, the family will plan a memorial service to take place at a later date.
