Michael Edward Molloy of Chelsea, AL passed away on March 22, 2023, at age 70. Michael was a caring, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had a unique and spirited personality that touched the lives of many.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother Gloria Maxine Bonner, his father Edward George Molloy, his step-father Lloyd Whaley, his sister Christi Molloy and his son John Zimmer, Sr.
Michael is survived by his wife Paulette Molloy, sons Michael Anthony and Mathew Molloy, grandsons Hayden Molloy and John (Kasey) Zimmer, Jr., granddaughters Caroline Molloy and Jamie (John) Kent, great grandchildren Jacelyn and Jaiden Kent, brother Scott Whaley, sister and brother-in-law Carrie and Donald Perkins, Amy Molloy, many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
Michael proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1982. He was recalled to active duty in 1991 in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm, He continued to serve his country in the United States Naval Reserve from 1990 to 2012 with the Naval Marine Corps Reserve Center in Bessemer, Alabama to Airborne Early Warning Squadron Seven Seven in Atlanta, Georgia where he served as Command Senior Chief and to VFW77 in New Orleans, Louisiana where he retired as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman. During his time in the Navy, he received many awards and accommodations. Michael held fast to the Navy Creed “Honor, Courage and Commitment” and to the Marine motto “Semper Fedelis - Always Faithful.”
Michael had an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from ITT Technical Institute, Indianapolis, Indiana. He worked at Rockwell International in Downers Grove, Illinois and then Tellabs in Lisle, Illinois as a Technical Trainer.
Michael was a member of the Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills, Mid-South Seniors Golf Association, Chelsea Masonic Lodge #886, NRA and Brocks Gap Range.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating Michael’s life on Friday April 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills, 201 South Montgomery Hwy., Vestavia Hills, AL 35216. Visitation and reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society or to the Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills – Project Hope.
