He is survived by his sister Carol Jones, his three children Anna Hopkins, Kelvin Knight, and Karen Craft, seven grandchildren, and five great granddaughters.
Melvin worked for almost 30 years at UAB’s Sparks Center as Head of Instructional Technology along with a professorship in the School of Education. He was a lifelong learner, accumulating multiple degrees, and was a voracious reader who loved to travel, walk, and take in films whenever possible.
Melvin was fiercely loyal to his family, never failing to be there when needed. He is so very loved and will be terribly missed.
