Melanie Sherer

Melanie Johnson Sherer age 62, passed away December 10, 2022. She was born in Leeds on February 17, 1960 the daughter of James WA Johnson and Peggy Sue Brookshire Elkins. Melanie grew up in Huffman and graduated from Huffman High School. Melanie was married to James Robert (Bob) Sherer III for 33 years and had two children Patrick Brookshire Sherer (Madison) and Presley Sherer Zessin (Tyler). Melanie was a dedicated mother to her children serving as room mom for their classes which led to her career working for the school system. Melanie served as crossing guard, P.E. aid and secretary for the school system. Melanie was dedicated to her community through working for the school system over the past 20 years. Her biggest legacy, however was the immeasurable mark she left on her family, friends and Pelham Oaks Elementary School Family. Known to them as Melanie, Mom and MelMel she will forever hold a dear and precious place in each of their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Sue Brookshire Elkins. She is survived by her husband James Robert (Bob) Sherer III, son, Patrick Brookshire Sherer (Madison) of Birmingham, daughter, Presley Sherer Zessin (Tyler) of Florala, brother, Cortney Johnson (Susan) of Trussville, brother, Shawn Johnson of Chattanooga, father, James WA Johnson. Melanie was a beloved sister, aunt to many nieces and nephews, and Bunny (Grandmother) to be.

Funeral services for Melanie Johnson Sherer will be private.

A celebration of life will be held January 7, 2023 at Pelham Oaks Elementary School. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers donations in Melanie’s memory may be made to Pelham Oaks Elementary School.
