Mary "Fran" Hulsey

Friend to all Mary Frances Hulsey, Fran to her friends, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 20th, 2021. At the age of 62 Fran fought breast cancer for over 9 years before finally succumbing to the disease. Born in 1959 to Flora and John Naro, Fran was raised in Bessemer with older brother Anthony, older sister Alice and younger brother John. Throughout her life she was a best friend to many and caretaker to all. Fran was a selfless soul who always tried to make sure everyone around her was happy, healthy, and most importantly well fed. An Italian Catholic who attended St. Aloyisius as a schoolgirl and then as a member of the church in later life. Making friends wherever she went, Fran met and fell in love with her late husband Mark Hulsey after years of friendship. The two of them were happily married for 40 years before Mark passed in 2020 due to pneumonia. The couple raised two wonderful children, Brandon Hulsey & Jessica Hulsey who never went a day without speaking to their mother. She welcomed in daughter-in-law, Elyse Post, in 2019 when her son was lucky enough to marry the young woman. Fran began to go by Nana in 2021 as her first grandchild, Henry Lewis Hulsey, was brought into the world by Elyse & Brandon Hulsey. As one of the best mothers in the world, it didn’t necessarily mean she was a mom to only blood. Work mom, a group mom, and an actual mom, she was a special lady who made sure everyone around her felt special as well. With a beautiful smile and a listening ear, Fran was always there to help anyone with a problem or if anyone needed a hug. Fran was an extraordinary woman who made a lasting and caring impression to everyone she met. With her positive attitude and genuine love for all life, Fran will be missed dearly. A visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL on Saturday, June 26, at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm with a reception immediately after the service.
