The Reverand Dr. Martin (Marty) Domokos was born May 27, 1933, in Prenter, West Virginia to the parents of Julius Domokos and Julia Keleman Domokos Roach. Marty’s parents were first generation Hungarian immigrants who were coal miners in West Virginia. Marty was a graduate of Great Bridge High School, Great Bridge, VA (class of 1951). He is a veteran of the US Army, attended Chowan University and Guilford College where he played football, wrote for the college newspaper, was a statistician for sporting events and graduated with a degree in Economics. Marty worked for Good Year and owned his own company—"Big Marty, the Parking Lot’s Friend”.
At the age of 65, Marty enrolled at Dallas Theological Seminary and became an ordained Methodist Minster at the age of 67. In 2001, He received his Doctor of Theology from Slidell University. He served as a Methodist Minister and was Senior Pastor at Shiloh Methodist Church in Calera Alabama. He served the Lord as a missionary and teacher in Mozambique, Africa and was Chaplain at Shelby Memorial Hospital.
Marty married Carma Poole, his loving wife in 1987. He was a family man and leaves behind an abundance of offspring to cherish his memory including, Daughters Patrica Domokos Allred (Ben Allred) Judith Domokos Tobin (David Tobin) Dale Domokos Phillips (Ray Phillips) Gale Domokos Bonnell (Richard Bonnell) Jamie Domokos Jones (Carl Jones) Terry Poole Blankenship (Randy) and Edward Poole. He had 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
He was a man of many talents and hobbies. He had a great love of life, a zest for living and a great sense of humor. He loved wood-working, football, history, traveling and studying the Bible. Marty was always in learning mode and continuing education was a hallmark of his life. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Alabaster where he led an adult Sunday School Class. He was a Deacon in several churches. He was a Civitan, Elk and an active member of Keenagers, Timeless Treasures at Alabaster Senior Center and participated with the RSVP Volunteer group.
Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church of Alabaster, Alabama on Tuesday February 27th, 2024 at 10:00 am with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am. Burial Services will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alabaster Senior Center in his honor.
