Margaret Elizabeth Shannon Creswell passed away August 21, 2020, at 95 years of age. She was born in Cullman, Alabama to Herbert and Bessie (Tingle) Shannon, who predeceased her. She was married to Frank Higgins, Jr. (deceased) followed by Willie Creswell (deceased). Her brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert (Audrey) and Homer (Doris) also predeceased her.
She is survived by two daughters and one son, Linda Collins (Lloyd), Pamela Palmer (Tom, deceased) and Frank Higgins (Karen). She is also survived by grandchildren: Richard (Connie) Collins, Steven Collins, Lindsey Schoenfeld (Jordan), Heather Higgins, Jeff Palmer (Grit); and great-grandchildren: Yonas, Lilly, and Kylie Palmer; Eden and Judah Schoenfeld. She is additionally survived by nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was a lifelong Methodist, being a member at East Lake, Wilson’s Chapel, and Asbury United Methodist Churches and visiting at Bluff Park and Riverchase United Methodist Churches. She was active in United Methodist Women, flower guild, and “Young at Heart” retirement group. She enjoyed being a “welcome wagon” hostess for several years. She and her husband, Willie, delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for many years. Margaret loved to travel and cruise. She always had a smile, loved a good joke, and never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was an athlete in high school and pitched for her softball team. As an adult, she played golf and won first place in her division at Inverness Club Champion in 1977. In 1979, she was invited to represent Inverness Ladies Golf Association at the Otey Crisman LPGA Classic Pro-Am tournament. She was also a huge Alabama football fan, and never missed an opportunity to watch the Crimson Tide play. She became a great bridge player and played for 78 years.
She was proud that she could help during World War II by working in Oak Ridge, TN.
Due to pandemic concerns, there will be a graveside service for the immediate family only. Rev. Jimmy Bassham and Dr. Michael Meeks will be conducting the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
