Lonnie J. McCullar Jr.

April 15, 1925 - March 29, 2018

Lonnie J. McCullar, 92, originally of Walker County, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018. Lonnie was born on April 15, 2025 in rural Walker County. He was married to Sarah McCullar for 62 years. They had one daughter, Pam Measel. Mr. McCulIar was a proud private during the Navy during WWII. After the military, Lonnie began working for A.E. Staley and worked their most of his career. He enjoyed his time with A.E. Staley travelling throughout the US. He finished his career in the food brokerage business. He was active in the VFW, An avid golfer at Altadena Country Club and Musgrove Country Club.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Sarah McCullar; grandson, Brian Measel; parents, Minnie and Lonnie McCullar; and brothers, Bill McCullar and Daryl McCullar. He is survived by his daughter, Pam Measel (Chuck); grandsons, Matthew (Ami) and Adam Measel; step great-granddaughter, Ashton; and sisters, Vetra Sherer, Ruth Thomas (Ed), Jean Reaves and Betty Buford (Jim). Also left to cherish his memory is his companion, Olga Larson.

The celebration of Lonnie’s life will be on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 429 Cloudland Drive, Birmingham, AL 35226. A memorial service will occur at 1 pm, with a private family interment following at the St. Alban’s Memorial Garden, officiated by Marge Doyle. A reception will follow.
