Linda Murphy Stewart passed away on December 11th, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born in Minot, North Dakota to Emma McDaniel Murphy and Lester Murphy on March 11, 1941. After graduating from the University of Oregon, she met and married Robert Charles Stewart with whom she shared 58 years of marriage before his death in 2020. She went on to obtain her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and served in many senior administrative capacities in the field of education. Her final employer was the U.S. Department of Education, where she was the Superintendent over military schools in the Pacific RIM.
Linda and Bob enjoyed traveling and visited countries across the world. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her children, Gail Stewart Greif (Kevin), John Charles Stewart (Karen) and Patrick Lester Stewart, as well as three grandchildren, Abigail Mire, Olivia (Wilson) Newell and Seth Stewart. She had two great granddaughters, Eleanor and Josephine. Her extended family resides in Oregon but are very close in heart.
A memorial service will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 4609 Martin Street S. Cropwell, AL 35054, at 11:00 am. There will be a reception at our home following the service and friends and family are welcome.
Later, she will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
