Ask anyone. Judy Faye Parnell Wood could do, and did, anything and everything. Her loving family will carry that with them after her passing on April 27, 2023, following an illness. Judy was born on January 7, 1941, to Booth and Connie Parnell, graduated from Ensley High School in 1958 and attended Auburn University. After marrying in 1960 and having her son, Shannon in 1964, she embarked on managing the world: controller of Hanna Steel, a stint at Engel Realty, managing the family business, managing assistant to owner of Parisian’s (Mr. Harold Abrams) and opening one of the first home cleaning services in Birmingham with her sister - just to name a few! Always the athlete, she lettered in basketball, hiked, biked, cleaned up the racquetball court with all challengers (including a few chagrinned men), and loved riding
in a good off-road motorcycle race. Always the giver, she delighted in gifting hand made planters decorated with her own collected seashells and jewelry that her domino-playing friends gave her. Those beautiful pots came filled with various vegetables and flowers from her garden and immaculate yard. The Alabaster Friends of the Library Organization appreciated her serving as treasurer as well as volunteering at the library, likely a beloved place to fill her love of books.
Our charming Judy was southern intelligence with a backbone. Although competitive, she was quick to laugh, quicker to love and appreciated that life doesn’t always go as planned - adapt, learn and grow.
Judy leaves behind her grateful family: Shannon Wood (son), Adam Wood (grandson), Linda Parnell (sister), Christian Boren/Reese (grandson), Page Stabler/Alan (niece), Kelly Spetalnick/Tom (niece), grand nieces and nephews Sam, Molly, Zach and Savannah, as well as special friend, Ted Sherrod. She is predeceased by her parents, her granddaughter, Ally Wood, and sister, Gloria Nelson.
The family will receive visitors at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at First United Methodist Church of Alabaster, followed by a service at 6:30. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alabaster Friends of the Library Organization.
