Joyce Patton Ellis, age 89, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on Sunday morning, January 15, 2017. She was born on May 13, 1927 in Sanford, North Carolina to Conner Blaine Patton, Sr. and Nanny Augusta Bowers.
Joyce graduated from the Appalachian State University. In 1978 she and her husband of 59 years, Morris L. Ellis, Sr., formed Southeastern Tag & Label. Southeastern Tag & Label is currently under the leadership of Morris L. Ellis, Jr.
Joyce was a quiet and dignified lady. She enjoyed going to church and watching all sports on TV, especially Alabama football. She enjoyed working, and was a very shrewd business woman who let very little get past her.
Joyce is survived by one daughter, Nan Lee Ellis Galbreath; one son, Morris Lee Ellis, Jr. (Rose); sister, Helen Schollmeyer; granddaughter, Joy Galbreath Odom (Jeremy); grandson, Cody Lee Ellis; great-grandson, Jaedon Odom; and Carmen and Shannon Francis (Harper).
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Lee Ellis, Sr.; brother, C.B. Patton, Jr.; brother, Harry Patton; brother, Robert Patton; sister, Katherine Fox; son-in-law, John L. Galbreath, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Christopher Odom.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The graveside service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham, with Pastor Derek Jacks officiating.
