John was born on February 19, 1988 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was an avid fisherman who loved being out in nature. Toward the end, John reflected that heaven must be like the peace and serenity he experienced in his boat on a sunny afternoon floating down the Cahaba River casting for fish with his beloved Great Pyrenees, “Ghost” by his side.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Rylie Elizabeth Powers of Birmingham, AL; his parents, Christian Kelly (David) Gillespie of Birmingham, AL, and John Patrick Nagy, Sr. of Baltimore, MD; his grandparents, Robert and Brynda Roper of Birmingham, AL; his sister, Cleveland Gillespie; his aunt, Heather Holman; and his beloved nieces, Talia Donley and Bella Holman.
Due to the pandemic, the family invites only family and close friends to the visitation at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm with a service beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
