John A. Hoffman, of Alabaster, AL, passed away on March 26th, 2020 at Brookwood Baptist Shelby Hospital at the age of 81. He was born in Ramsey, IL on February 27th, 1939. His devotion to God, Family and Country was evident to all who knew him.
He graduated from Ramsey High School; and continued his education at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, receiving both a Bachelor of Science and his Wings (ROTC).
John bravely served our country for 21 years in the USAF, rising from 2nd Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel at retirement. He completed several tours, both home and abroad, including Vietnam and England.
Due to his lifelong love of flying, he continued a career as a pilot in the private sector long after his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force. John also had a passion for golf, and played as often as possible.
He is preceded in death by both parents, George Lindel Hoffman and Eithal Marie Halford Hoffman. John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Nancy Hoffman; sister Linda Hoffman (Jill); children Gregory Hoffman (Elsa), David Brown (Selena), Mark Hoffman (Jeannie), Mark Brown (Brenda) and Lecia Sutherland; and nine grandchildren.
He was a member at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hoover, AL.
A Memorial service will be held at the church at a date and time TBD.
