John G. Dunning, Jr., age 71, of Hoover, AL, passed away on March 13, 2020. He was born to the late Jack and Norma Dunning on July 20, 1948, in Birmingham, AL. John graduated from Ensley High School in 1967 and later received a BS degree in Business. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard and was a Vietnam Era Veteran. He married Michelle W. Dunning in 1986 and resided in Hoover, Alabama.
John worked in sales in the electrical and nuclear industries until he retired. He was a strong supporter of the U. S. military, a devoted Alabama Football fan, enjoyed skydiving (made 589 jumps) and followed NASCAR. Later in life, John developed a fondness for pro football when his daughter, Lauren, and son-in-law, Patrick, moved away to follow their careers with the NFL.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Norma Dunning, and his brother, David. He is survived by wife, Michelle W. Dunning; daughter, Lauren D. Claybon (Patrick); sister, Debbie Amberson; grandchild, Malcolm Claybon; one blessing on the way; several nieces and nephews and one special, faithful companion, Zelda McBones (John’s greyhound).
Graveside service will be at Alabama National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
