BEATON, DR. JOHN M., born June 21, 1944 in Huntly, Scotland, died April 21, 2011 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a professor at the University of Alabama in Birmingham for over 25 years. Survivors include Dr. Beaton's wife of 43 years, Eleanor Beaton; daughters, Katie Beaton and Mallory Beaton; brother, Richard Beaton; and other family. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The Memorial Service will be at 12:30 Wednesday in the funeral home's chapel, with Pastor Steve Blair officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be designated for the UAB School of Medicine Medical Scholarship Fund and sent to Virginia Gilbert Loftin, UAB School of Medicine Development Office, FOT 1231, 1530 Third Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35294-3412.
