Jimmy Douglas Brown was born on May 24th, 1946 to Buster and Lugene Brown in Decatur, AL. He received his formal education at Decatur High School in Decatur, AL and furthered his education at Samford University in Birmingham, AL.
A 10- year friendship flourished into 50 years of marriage to the love of his life, Nancy Chenault on June 5, 1971 in Decatur, AL. Their love and family grew with the blessing of their 2 children. As a young man Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his time in the military, Jim spent 40 years serving his community through various roles during his real estate career.
Above all, Jim loved his savior Jesus Christ, and was a faithful member of Lakeside Baptist Church. He served his Lakeside family as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, and he loved singing in the choir alongside his wife, Nancy Brown every Sunday. His love for Christ and his family were reflected in the music that he loved to sing, write, and play on his guitar. He enjoyed sharing his original songs with his fellow members of the Birmingham Songwriters Guild.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother, Buster and Lugene Brown, and his brothers, Neal Brownand Jeffrey Brown. He leaves precious memories with his wife Nancy Brown, his two children Stephen Brown and Sherri Blackerby, his two grandchildren Emma and Camdem Blackerby, his brothers Johnny and Jerry Brown, and his sisters Wilma Johnson and Kathy Brown.
A memorial service will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 3:30pm. Jim will receive military honors at a private graveside service at Southern Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations instead to be made to the Jimmie Hale Mission in Birmingham, AL where Jim was blessed to minister through the years.
