Jerry received his formal education at Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven, Georgia. He was the owner of JCOM Sports as a sports broadcaster. Jerry was known as the voice of Alabama High School football, and for the last several years, the voice of the Thompson Warriors. He was also part of the NFHS Network.
Jerry loved promoting all high school sports in Alabama. He always wanted it to be about the players. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Jerry never met a stranger and he was blessed with many friends. More than anything, he loved the Lord and his family. In his leisure, Jerry loved to spend time with his friends in the PTPC organization and his friends at the beach.
Over the years, Jerry was a member of many Baptist churches, with the last at Community Baptist Church.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Bernice Young.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Johna Evans Young; his son, Jeremy Walker Young (Elise); grandchildren, Leona, Grant, and Celine; brother, E. Phil Young; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, nephews, great nieces, great nephews. As well as his extended cousins.
