James Dudley Wilson, 87, of Pelham, AL passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Loving husband, devoted father, adoring grandfather, caring brother, and generous friend who always thought of himself last. Jimmy, a Tuscaloosa County, AL native, was preceded in death by two children, Frances DeVaughn and Mike Wilson, and several other relatives. Survivors include Jimmy's wife of 61 years, Julia Marie Evans Wilson; two daughters, Jean Darby and her husband Buddy, and Ann Irwin; three grandchildren, Page Mull Venable, Joseph Paul Mull, and Lauren Irwin; one great-grandson, Michael Irwin; two sisters, Christine Franklin and Mildred Williams; and one brother, Douglas Wilson. Jimmy worked 47 years with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as a Postal Supervisor in Birmingham, AL in 1993. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Hoover, AL. The family will greet friends one hour before the 2 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. Burial, Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville, AL. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Kennedy and son-in-law Buddy Darby, and active pallbearers will be Clifford Owens, nephew Elliot Wilson, grandson Joseph Paul Mull, Wesley Venable, Charles Roberts, and Jodi Roberts. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Hoover First Baptist Church, 2025 Patton Chapel Rd. N., Hoover, AL 35216-5774.
