Jim, the son of Ranell and James Mortimer Weems Jr., was born on March 14, 1945. Jim had two great loves during his life: his first love was for his wife Candace Deen Weems “Candy.” Jim’s second love was his hobby relating to radio controlled model airplanes. Jim had a huge love for his family and friends and was always ready to help others in any way possible.
When Jim met Candy, he truly found the love of his life. They were happily married for 29 years. Jim treasured the irreplaceable friendships that his love for model airplane connected him with. His light hearted and caring personality made it easy for him to make close friends wherever he went. Jim was born in Texas but grew up in Birmingham, Alabama graduated from Berry High School and attended one year of college at Jeff State prior to enlisting into the United States Army to serve his country during the Vietnam War.
Jim is survived by his wife Candy, his daughter Kim Weems Caruso, his grandson McCall Caruso, his brothers Ray Weems (Ellen) and Andrew Weems, his nephews Taylor Weems and Michael Weems, and his nieces Alanna Weems and Jennifer Weems, and step daughters Catherine Meadows Burwell (Troy) and Jennifer Meadows Rex (Graham).
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at The Alabama Sports Flyers Field located at 3704 County Road 47 in Clanton, Alabama.
