James Daniel “Jim” Singleton, Sr. passed away this Sunday, the 14th of November, 2021 in Birmingham, Alabama. A native of Holt, Alabama, Mr. Singleton graduated from Holt High School where he was a letterman in multiple sports and All-State in football. He then attended the University of Alabama, where he met his former wife, Lynn Singleton Hightower (née Sarah Lynn Gross). Mr. Singleton went on to establish a successful business career and retired as Executive Vice President of McWane Ductile Iron Pipe Group. Jim was known in the cast iron pipe industry for his work ethic, aggressive leadership, and achievement of good, productive workplace relations between management and labor. He lived for many years in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and was a longtime member of Saucon Valley Country Club, where he made great friends and enjoyed many rounds of golf and good times. Jim served on the Board of Directors of St. Luke’s Health System, and he was also active in his church in Pennsylvania where he served on the finance committee. Mr. Singleton was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Singleton, Sr. and Nell Murphy Singleton, and his older brother, Paul (Webbie) Singleton, Jr. He is survived by his younger brother, David (Billie) Singleton; three children, Dan (Allison), Bob, and Bella Singleton; three granddaughters, Amanda (Chip) Lloyd, Danielle (Will) Battle, and Caroline Singleton; and two great-grandchildren, Josh Loudermilk and Allie Battle.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 12th at 2:00pm at Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 1-2pm.
