James F. McKenna, age 86, of Pelham, AL, passed away on Thursday evening, November 1, 2018. Jim was the loving husband of Regina for 61 years and the father to four children, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was born on November 26, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he lived until he moved to Birmingham Alabama in 1985.
Jim was a member of the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He retired from U.S. Steel as a mechanical engineer and spent much of his retirement traveling the country with his wife Regina in their RV. Some of his favorite times were wintering in Sanibel, FL with the 49ers.
Jim was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Birmingham.
Jim McKenna was predeceased by his parents, Rachael and James McKenna; and sisters, Dorothy Stockdill and Jane Pastir.
Survivors include Jim’s loving wife, the former Regina Lasky; two daughters, Lynn (Bob) Kohl and Susan (Mark) Warren; two sons, Jim (Gina) McKenna and Mike (Rina) McKenna; grandchildren, Jimmy (Taylor) McKenna, Stacey (Joe) Radle, Maggie (Adhemar) Renuart; Bobby Kohl, Hannah McKenna, Alex Warren, Michael McKenna, and Adam Warren; great-grandchildren, Liam McKenna, John Luke Radle, Beau Radle, Waylon Radle, and McKenna Grace Renuart; and sister Mary Ann Honacki.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Birmingham, immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the church. Later that day, burial will follow the 2 p.m. committal service at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo. Monsignor Paul Rolling will officiate.
