That hyphen between those dates represents a hard but happy life for James. He had one daughter, Brandiss, his pride and joy. Brandiss married Aaron Tews and they gave him two wonderful grandsons, Trey and Douglas.
James spent most of his working life as one of the best wood installers in Alabama. He attended every training workshop that was available by Bruce Hardwood floors. This experience included doing the wood on many basketball floors in the southeast.
At one point he opened his own business. His last work was at Issis and Sons as a subcontractor. It was during this time that he and Carol met and have been together for 26 years. They moved to Chelsea and found St. Catherine Episcopal Church and were welcomed as a family. Earlier in his life, he loved to hunt. Later in life he turned to fishing which he loved, salt water and fresh water.
James is survived by his two grandsons, Trey William Tews and wife Cassie, and Douglas William Tews and fiancé Sasha Hughes. He also is survived by brothers, Edmond and Walter, two stepchildren, Stephanie Lawley and Steven Dotson, and of course, Carol and his beloved dog, Missy.
The family will have a private graveside. A celebration of James' life will be held at a later date.
