Jacqueline Anne Moore Downs Jeffcoat

Jackie was raised in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Woodlawn High School. She grew up attending South Avondale Baptist Church where, in 1947, she wed Melvin C. Downs, Jr. They were married for 53 wonderful years until his death in 2000. They raised four children, Jan, Cliff, Dale, and Brad.

Later they moved their church membership to South Roebuck Baptist Church, where Jackie was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the church choir. Flowers and gardening were her passion, and she was a lifetime member of the Roebuck Springs Garden Club. Jackie was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In 2005, Jackie married Harry Jeffcoat, Jr. They were married until his death in 2013. Together, they were faithful members of Crestway Baptist Church in Birmingham.

She is survived by her children, sons, Cliff (Leslie) Downs III of Franklin, TN; and Brad Downs of Birmingham; daughters, Jan (Bob) Prescott of Birmingham, and Dale (Don) Thompson of Birmingham; her grandchildren, Shelley (Slade) Greer; Trey (Caroline) Prescott; Whitney (Greg) Hermandorfer; Julianne (Luke) Colbert; Royce Thompson; and Cameron Thompson; along with her great-grandchildren, Anne Charlotte Prescott; Watkins Greer; Haulsey Greer; Ford Greer; Hayley Hermandorfer; Hannah Hermandorfer; and Harper Hermandorfer.

A private family graveside service will be held Friday afternoon, January 13, 2023, at Southern Heritage Cemetery, officiated by Mr. Rick Burgess.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Galleria Woods for their love, kindness, and support these past nine years, and also to the staff of Affinity Hospice for their loving care during the last few months.
