Jack Richard Pollard died peacefully on September 11, 2017. He was born on January 31, 1928 in Roanoke Virginia to Blanche and James O. Pollard. Jack was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. He was a man of faith and a loyal employee. He loved reading, traveling and spending time at the Gulf Coast. He was a wonderful dancer and a consummate gentleman, and he will be greatly missed. After serving in the United States Army in the First Calvary Division, he attended the University of Virginia and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Engineering. He was a member of Alpha Pi Mu Industrial Engineering Society. He was an officer in Phi Kappa Sigma and involved in Druids, Alpha Phi Omega, the Cotillion Club, and AIIE. Jack went to work for South Central Bell Telephone company and remained a committed employee until his retirement. He was often recognized for his contributions to the company. He was involved in numerous civic organizations in Birmingham, Montgomery, and Jackson, Ms. He was a founding member of Brookwood Baptist Church and most recently a member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, as well as his wife of 65 years, Johanna Kerzic Pollard. He is survived by his Children, Leigh Pollard Burke(Jim Burke), Jay Richard Pollard(Sonya Pollard), Sister, Thelma Duncan of Roanoke, Va. Grandchildren, Mackenzie Leigh Farrell, Charlie Crawford Farrell, Jack Christian Farrell, Jackson Robert Pollard, and Hannah Lea Pollard. Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 2:30 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home with visitation from 1:30-2:30. Burial Will be in Southern Heritage Cemetery. The Family wishes to thank the staff at Brookdale Memory Care for their attention and kindness, the staff of Kindred Hospice and especially the wonderful sitters who made his last days so much more comfortable.
