Born November 9, 1927 in Lisman, Alabama he was best known to friends and family as Malone. He served in the United States Army. He retired from Mercury Freight Lines in 1985. Never content to sit around, Malone loved going to the lake, fishing, and working in his yard and garden. He was well known for being able to fix anything particularly washers and dryers. He was always eager to help someone in need.
He was a Deacon at Wilkes Baptist Church. He then moved to Riverside Baptist Church in Helena, Alabama where he was a founding member and Deacon. He spent many hours taking care of the building and loving the people in it. He was known to many there as “Papa.”
His memory will always be treasured by his loving wife of 67 years, Annie Holt Malone; children, Nancy Weems (Dick), Larry Malone (Nell), Kaye Garrison (Jim); grandchildren, Jennifer Zoumberis, Amanda Franklin (Kevin), Chris Weems (Krystle), Casey Brown (Adam), Blake Campbell (Dena), Scott Campbell, and Paul Garrison; great-grandchildren, Madilynn, Kaylee, Raedyn, Davis, Anthony, Harlynn, Deacon, Lucy, Weston, Millie; siblings, Nell Hughes and Faye Chandler; and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Riverside Baptist Church Building Fund (Helena, Alabama) or your favorite charity in his honor.
Services will be Monday, March 5, 2018 at Ridout's Southern Hertiage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The family will begin accepting guests at 11:30 a.m. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday with graveside to follow.
