Guy S. Dill, age 99, was born on May 8, 1922 in Bessemer, Alabama. He passed away at the Colonel Robert L. Howard Veterans Home on March 24, 2022 in Pell City, Alabama.
A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10 at Lakeside Baptist Church.

Guy was preceded in death by his wife of almost 75 years, Julia McWhorter Dill, daughter, Jeannie Dill McLendon, parents Leonard and Columbia White Dill (Lummie), brothers Bill, Robert, and Claude, sisters Bernice Welborn and Hazel Napier.
Guy is survived by his sons Jimmy Dill (Diane), Butch Dill, four grandchildren, Jana Zaragoza (Chris), Brooke Stewart (Jay), Brian McLendon (Emily), and Jennifer Brown (Steve), and ten great grandchildren, Madeline Zaragoza Cottingham (Ben), Addison Stewart, Lauren Zaragoza, Julia Stewart, Hayes Brown, Gavin Brown, Will McLendon, Mary McLendon, Baker Stewart, and Landon Brown.
Guy had a career spanning over sixty years in the trucking and railroad transportation industries. Shortly after graduation from Bessemer High School, Guy answered his country’s call in January, 1942, just a month after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After training in Pensacola, he served as a fighter pilot in the South Pacific aboard the USS Manilla Bay. Following the end of World War II, he remained in the Naval Reserves for a total of 23 years of active and reserve military service, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Lieutenant Commander Dill was honored to attend the 80th Anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 2021. Guy also served as an Auxiliary Alabama State Trooper.
Guy served as a sunday school teacher, a deacon, was a current member of Lakeside Baptist Church, and was a former member of Indian Springs and Forest Hills Baptist Churches. He made his last flight on March 24th with great anticipation of meeting his Lord, Jesus Christ, and being reunited with loved ones who preceded him to Glory.
