GANTT, LEWIS "GREG," 59, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 after a long illness. He will be widely remembered as the Alabama Crimson Tide football player who led the Southeastern Conference for three consecutive years in punting. The Birmingham native helped the Tide to win two national championships and went on to play pro football for the New York Jets. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Whaley Gantt and Joyce Riley Gantt, and a sister, Carole Gantt Gothard. Survivors include Greg's two cherished daughters, Miranda Leigh Gantt and Meagan Nicole Gantt; his two sisters, Patricia Gantt and Cindy Campbell; and his former wife and special friend, Frances Miranda Gantt. Visitation: 3-5 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
