Gordon H. Lewis, Sr., 92, of Indian Springs, Alabama, passed away Saturday, May 3. 2014. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps who proudly served in both World War II and the Korean War. A member of the 56th Fighter Group, 62nd Fighter Squadron, he was under heavy fire when his aircraft was shot down on May 8, 1944, after taking down several enemy planes. He survived the crash and was taken prisoner by the Gestapo, and spent nearly a year as a POW in a German Camp, receiving the Purple Heart upon his release. He was a decorated solider. After the military, he went on to the construction business and was the owner of Lewis Construction Company. He is survived by a Daughter, Millie Goodwin of Trussville, Alabama, and a son Gordon H. Lewis, Jr., of Loganville, Georgia, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 2:00pm at Southern Heritage in Pelham, Alabama.
