She was born in Montgomery, Alabama on February 16, 1942, to wonderful Christian parents, Homer Russell Reeve and Minerva Dodd Reeve. Gloria moved with her family to Birmingham at the age of five. She attended Elyton Grammar School and graduated from West End High School. Gloria was voted Miss West End High School by her graduating class in 1960. She was also Co-Head Cheerleader at West End. Gloria attended Jacksonville State University. After she married Gary Wallace in 1962, she worked for the head of Auburn University’s personnel department to help her new husband through engineering school at Auburn.
Gloria accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 10 and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Birmingham. She was a long-time member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, where she worked in the nursery for many years. She was a devoted mother and supported her two daughters in all of their many activities such as softball at Shades Mountain Community Park and their many cheerleading and sports activities at Berry High School. She loved to sew and made beautiful curtains and window treatments for her homes. She also made cheerleading uniforms for the girls as well as one-of a-kind dresses and gowns for special occasions, such as high school formals and Hoover Belles. She made every project with love and excellence. Gloria also volunteered for The Children’s Service League, which supports the needs of children on the severe end of the Autism Spectrum.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Gary Clifton Wallace; daughters, Alison Wallace Wheeler and Angela Wallace McLaughlin (Patrick); grandchildren, David Wheeler, Anna Wallace Wheeler, William Wheeler, Ali Gammon (Micah), Reeve McLaughlin; great granddaughter, Merilyn Jane Gammon; her very close sister, Merilyn Reeve Crouch and special friend Shannon Long.
Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Friday September 30, 2022, at 11:00 am followed by the service at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make specifically marked donations for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis research to:
