George Gaston Sanford

age 90, was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Sanford passed away on September 6, 2013 after a long illness. Mr. Sanford is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Cheryl Bell Sanford; a brother Marion (Peggy) Sanford of Wetumpka, AL, 2 beloved nieces, Janice (Ron) Guertin of Bradenton, FL and Barbara (Robbie) Grissom of Beaumont, TX; sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. During World War II, Mr. Sanford fought at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1pm on Monday, September 9, 2013 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Highway 119. Mr. Sanford's graveside service will be at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the hospice that cared for him: Southern Care Hospice, 2294 Lakeshore Drive, Suite 475, Birmingham, AL 35209.
