She received her education at Bonne Terre High School and was a devoted member of Kingwood Church. On June 28, 1942, she married the love of her life, O.J. “Bud” Strong. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with four children.
Genetta’s faith was the foundation of her life. She found joy and purpose in reading her Bible, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, and praying for those she loved. She cherished time spent with her family and friends and was known for her warm spirit and kind heart.
Throughout her life, Genetta was active in her church and community. She was a proud member of Women’s Aglow International, served as a Rosie the Riveter, and participated in AGAPE Meals at Kingwood Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, O.J. “Bud” Strong; her sons, James Lee Strong and John Earl Strong; and her parents, John and Essie Ward.
Genetta leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory in their hearts: her daughters, Joyce “Joy” Strong and Lela Vaughn (Mike); her grandchildren, Adam Vaughn, Andrew Vaughn, Jeboa Strong, and Jenna Strong; and her great-grandchildren, Zaelyn Vaughn and Tatum Vaughn.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Kingwood Church Missions Fund in Alabaster, Alabama, in honor of Genetta’s lifelong devotion to her faith and service to others.
