Dr. Gary Anthony Abrams, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 27, 2025, at the age of 72. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Gary’s life was marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge, a deep compassion for others, and a warm, infectious personality that left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Gina Abrams, of 44 years, and his children: Christopher Abrams (Lyndsay Abrams), Stephanie Ajlouny (Chase Ajlouny), and Marissa Abrams. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Aidan, Elijah, Miles, Dani, and Baby Boy Ajlouny.
He was predeceased by his mother, Rose Abrams, and his brother, Cliff Abrams.
Gary’s journey to becoming a physician was as unique as his character. In his early years, he spent time exploring a variety of paths, from working in pizza shops to owning a karate school, bowling, and xeroxing on Wall Street. It wasn’t until he attended nursing school that he discovered his two true loves: medicine and his beautiful wife, Gina.
His love for the medical field grew, leading him to medical school. He earned top honors and accolades in every profession he pursued. For nearly 30 years, Gary devoted his life to helping others through medicine and research, earning the respect and admiration of his peers and patients alike.
Known for his quick wit, insatiable curiosity, open-mindedness, and intellectual prowess, Gary never missed an opportunity to tease or make someone laugh. His relentless humor was a hallmark of his personality, and his heart of gold made him beloved by all who had the privilege to know him.
Gary’s family will forever feel his loss, but they will carry him in every aspect of their lives. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, and he will be remembered as a man who made the world a better place simply by being in it.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish on Wednesday, April 2, at 9:00 am with a funeral mass beginning at 10:00 am. There will be a Mercy meal to follow in the fellowship hall at Our Lady of the Catholic Parish, 5514 Double Oak Lane, Birmingham, Alabama 35242.
