Mr. Fakhry received his formal education at Ain Shams University in Cairo Egypt, gaining a Bachelor of Science, specializing in Geology.
He was an active member of the Coptic Orthodox Church where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Fakhry was married to Violette Fahmy on May 31, 1965. Their union was blessed with two children.
Mr. Assaad was a devoted husband, loving father, geologist, and author. He traveled at a young age with his basketball career representing his country. He learned so much about various cultures and traditions and had a lot of memorable stories to share. With his career, he also traveled the world digging for petroleum and later writing textbooks for young geologists. From the deserts of North Africa, Egypt, Algeria, to Tuscaloosa Alabama, the town he migrated to and called home for him and his family in the late 1980s. Mr. Assaad loved to play basketball and keeping up with political issues in the Middle East.
Fakhry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Violette Fahmy.
He is survived by his children, Maryanna Assaad Gundal and Fady Assaad; grandchildren, Marina F. Gundal, Kristina V. Gundal; parents, Maryanna and Karl Gundal; sisters Elaine, Fayza, and Mary in Egypt.
Rest in the peace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Fakhry Assaad. May God repose his soul in the paradise of joy and grant peace and the family and loved ones.
Visitation will be at 11:00 am followed by a service at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on April 24, at 12noon.
