Evelyn Louise Merrick

She was preceded in death by her parents Margaret T. and David L. Stoneburner, and her son W. Scott Merrick. She is survived by her brother Dwight T. Stoneburner, her sons Dwight D. Merrick, Stephen E. Merrick (Cathy), and Roger A. Merrick (Laurie), grandson Matthew T. Merrick (Jennifer), granddaughter Heather M. Murphy (Tim), great-grandchildren Morgan Merrick: Hayes, Rylee, and Wake Murphy; and nephew David T. Stoneburner (Kim) and their children. Eva Lou also leaves a host of friends who mourn her passing. Evelyn Louise Merrick was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Withrow High School and The Ohio State University with a degree in Restaurant Management. She worked in the restaurant field in Ohio and New Jersey. Eva Lou moved to Birmingham in 1963.

For a number of years, she was a realtor with First Real Estate and later ReMax Southern Homes. Eva Lou was an avid reader, gardener, bridge player, golfer, and homemaker. She organized the Heatherwood Garden Club and served as treasurer and president. She loved watching all types of sports, always cheering most for her beloved The Ohio State University. She traveled extensively around the world and to all seven continents, and she was known for her perpetual positive attitude. Eva Lou was a longtime member of Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church, the Amity Sunday School Class and The Rabbis Class.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of her special caregivers for the excellent care they provided over the past year.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church Music Fund or the American Heart Association.

Visitation for Mrs. Merrick will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022, from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM and the funeral to follow at 1:00 P.M. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124.
